World News Day 2025: PRINPAG’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT

28th September 2025

On behalf of the Private Newspaper and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), we extend warm greetings to all Ghanaians on World News Day. This day reminds us of the crucial role news publishers play in  our country , and the challenges they continue to face.

In Ghana, publishers grapple with limited revenue opportunities and threats to press freedom. Yet, they remain gatekeepers of information, guardians against misinformation, disinformation and malinformation, champions of diverse views, and defenders of free speech. Without their work, our society would risk disorder.

We urge the public to celebrate and support the media, whose efforts shape public discourse and hold power accountable. We commend individuals and institutions that continue to invest in the media through advertisements and other support, helping sustain access to accurate and timely information.

As we mark this day, we also recognize the need for constant improvement. Publishers must embrace constructive criticism, uphold ethical standards, and adopt technology to strengthen services and maintain public trust.

We call on government, corporate entities, and donors to invest in the sector, particularly in capacity building and technology, to ensure a resilient and independent media that serves the public interest and strengthens our democracy.

Thank you.

Signed,

David Tamakloe

President, PRINPAG
